As of this publication date, the current SASSAward winners are:
- Out of the Gate - Thelma and Louise
- Drama - Fight Club
- Comfort Food - The Mexican
- Overall - Bullet Train
I only agree with one.
The votes for Best Performance right Out Of The Gate are split between:
- Thelma and Louise - 29%
- Too Young to Die - 21%
- Cool World, California, Se7en, Legends of the Fall, and Magamind all getting 7%
I disagree. While Brad Pitt's performance in Thelma and Louise made him a household name, he was in Too Young to Die before that and I feel it was the first time he stood out as the leading man he would become. I don't disagree that T&L is great, I just think Too Young to Die came before it.
The votes for Best Performance in a Drama are split between:
- Fight Club - 24%
- The Curious Case of Benjamin Buttons - 18%
- Fury - 18%
- Legends of the Fall - 12%
- Once upon a time in Hollywood - 12%
- A River Runs Through It - 6%
I disagree. I am going with The Curious Case of Benjamin Buttons. Fight Club is great, but he is very one sided in that movie. In Benjamin Buttons we get to see him evolve over his aging (or really de-aging) process and see how life affects us all with maturity and wisdom. I feel it shows his range as an actor more clearly than the single minded Tyler Durden.
The votes for Best Performance in a Comfort Food movie are split between:
- The Mexican – 32%
- Ocean’s 11 – 16%
- Once Upon a Time In Hollywood – 11%
- Legends of the Fall – 11%
- The Lost City, Ad Astra, Money Ball, and Snatch all received 5%
I agree. It is hard to beat a nice love story with some adventure and an old mystic tale of magic. The Ocean's series is fun, but Pitt has a larger role in this one and is more central to the story line.
The votes for Best Overall Performance are split between:
- Bullet Train - 31%
- Legends of the Fall - 10%
- Babylon - 8%
- Once Upon a Time in Hollywood - 7%
- The Lost City - 5%
- The Curious Case of Benjamin Buttons - 4%
- F1, Ad Astra, Deadpool 2, 12 Years a Slave, World War Z, Moneybag, Inglorious Bastards, Mr. and Mrs. Smith, Troy, A River Runs Through It, Fight Club, Meet Joe Black, Se7en, Killing Them Softly all receiving 3% or less
I disagree. What??? Bullet Train. No. My vote barely made the list. I think Killing Them Softly is a stand out performance by Pitt. it shows how menacing he can be without a hint of his goofy side. He typical screen personality is totally missing from this character and I think the movie as a whole is grossly underrated.
